Gardeners raised bed planner6/30/2023 ![]() ![]() Many schools have embraced the SFG method because it’s easy to install and maintain without becoming an additional burden for the teacher. SFG is a great method for new gardeners, people who have little time, the elderly or disabled ( SFG gardens can be built at a raised height to make them more accessible), and children. ![]() The “pros” for SFG are primarily ease and simplicity. Back in the 1970s, this was a revolutionary idea! Never walk on the soil in the bed, as this will only compact the soil.Thin with Scissors: Instead of pulling up excess plants (which can disturb the root systems of the plants you want to grow), snip them off with scissors. The rich soil enables plants to be grown much more closely than normal, which in turn crowds out weeds. This provides a weed-free start as well as being water retentive and full of nutrients. A specific soil mix, which is water-retentive and nutrient-rich, is used to fill the beds.Beds should be deep-between 6 and 12 inches in depth in order to give plants plenty of rich nutrients, while still maintaining good drainage.Climbing peas and beans are planted in two mini-rows of 4 per square. As an exception to this, there are a few larger plants that span two squares. Instead, each square has either 1, 4, 9, or 16 plants in it depending on the size of the plant-easy to position in each square by making a smaller grid in the soil with your fingers. To keep the planting simple, there are no plant spacings to remember. This allows plants to be situated more closely together. That said, the beds can be 2x 2 feet or 4x12 feet, but the most common is 4x4 feet. Typically, SFG beds are at least 4 feet by 4 feet, with a square foot lattice placed on top to visually separate the crops.Add a one-foot square grid on top and it became easy to space and rotate crops. It soon became clear that getting rid of rows and using intensive deep-beds could dramatically cut the amount of maintenance the garden required. In particular, he found the average gardener was spending hours weeding the big gaps between long rows of plants, creating unnecessary work for themselves. It was only natural that he would apply his analytical skills to the problems he encountered. Mel Bartholomew had just retired as an engineer and decided to take up gardening as a hobby. SFG advocates claim it produces more, uses less soil and water, and takes much less time to maintain than a traditional garden.Ģ0 Vegetable Garden Layout Ideas for Any Size Backyard It’s a simple way to create easy-to-manage gardens with raised beds that need a minimum of time spent maintaining them. This planting method was developed by American author and TV presenter Mel Bartholomew in the 1970s. Square-foot gardening ( SFG) is a type of raised-bed gardening-basically, a raised box divided into squares. With the square-foot gardening method, you plant in 4x4-foot blocks instead of traditional rows. Different crops are planted in different blocks according to their size for example, 16 radishes in one square foot, or just one cabbage per square foot. A lattice is laid across the top to clearly separate each square foot. ![]() Plus, find six SFG garden plans to reference. Find out the pros and cons, whether square-foot gardening really works, the ideal size and depth that a square-foot garden should be, and more tips. My family tree now search6/30/2023 ![]() ![]() Some of them will be funny, others sad, but they will all tell you something about their character. They will have memories and stories about their lives that are priceless and cannot be found anywhere else. Judith, who shares her passion for family history on her blog Genealogy Jude, shares the following advice: “My top piece of advice for anyone who is starting to trace their family tree would be to speak to the older generations of their family. Those cousins may have photos or letters sent by your direct ancestors.” Start with the oldest relatives and be sure to branch out to distant cousins too. Each person in your family has memories and experiences like no one else, and all are pieces of the puzzle. Genealogical records will be online and safely stored in archives for years to come, but your relatives won't live forever. Don't delay! Talk to any genealogist and their biggest regret is not having interviewed relatives when they had the chance. Lisa, a genealogy expert and family history speaker from Genealogy Gems, has shared that talking to relatives as soon as possible is her no.1 tip: “My top piece of advice is to interview your living relatives right now. Asking family members at this time will make it easier to establish if you’re following the right leads and can also provide you with fantastic stories about some of the people you’re discovering. Having both the names and birthdays means that diving into parish records will be easier, meaning that a skeleton of your genealogy can be quickly developed. It’s details like these that will be helpful in helping you to trace your family tree.īeginning to trace your family in this way is recommended as it allows you to then work further back in time. Not only will they have more insight into those who came before you than paper records can provide, but you may discover that they have photographs and letters to share with you.īy speaking to existing relatives, you can start to fill in the gaps, learn a maiden name or two, find out a grandparent’s place of birth, or the date of a wedding. However, talking with relatives and allowing them to share their memoirs is one of the best ways to start tracing your family tree. READ ALSO: Who is the most famous UK pensioner? Talk to relativesĪs you get older, it becomes increasingly difficult to find people to speak to about your ancestors. These are usually portrayed with two horizontal lines joining the two names together, with dotted lines used for presumed relationships. After jotting down the relationships between parents and siblings, as well as your grandparents, you can begin to add in marriages. This will become a crucial document whilst tracing your family’s history, so it should be easy to understand. Vertical lines can be used to demonstrate the link between parents and their children, whilst horizontal lines can be used to dictate siblings.īeginning with your information at the bottom of the page, you should then work backwards, listing your parents, and grandparents’ names and dates of birth. Most family trees follow a similar format in order to link important people together whilst clearly illustrating their relationship. It’s always helpful to have something actually written down on paper or recorded digitally as you start the process, so once you have created an outline of a family tree, add details about yourself and your immediate family as this will get the ball rolling quickly. You now have a framework with which to begin your journey into your family’s past.” “Begin sketching out a basic family tree, recording your own life events, such as birth and marriage, and those of your immediate family and any older relatives you remember, such as aunties, uncles and grandparents. But this can go quickly awry, and you may find yourself tracing the wrong family! So, I would say start with yourself and work backwards before hitting the internet, with good old-fashioned paper and pencil. ![]() Karen from Family Tree Magazine shares: “It’s tempting to dive straight in and start researching members of your family on the large subscription genealogy sites. This simple diagram allows you to present the current information that you’re aware of, including names and birthdays, so is a fantastic place to start. Upon deciding to trace your genealogy, the first port of call should be creating a family tree. Tracing your family tree takes time and patience. You might want to dive into the juicy stuff right away and discover some exciting far distant relative from centuries ago but it’s easiest and more productive to start with yourself. The first step to trace a family tree is to start simple. Most people will think the answer to the question, ‘how do I trace my family tree?’ will be to jump immediately online buts it’s not necessarily the case. ![]()

Microsoft office price 20186/29/2023 ![]() At home I used Office 4.2 on my Windows 95 PC, so to use the same version on the Mac felt fine to me, but regular users felt differently. Variations of the retail packaging were available, where all the manuals and a 30~ floppy disk set were included instead. Internet Explorer 2.1 and Bookshelf 1996-97 were also included in copies marketed towards small business.ĭuring the 1990s I hadn’t used Office on a Mac extensively, stuck with ClarisWorks at school. Version 4.2.1 consisted of Word 6.0.1, Excel 5.0, PowerPoint 4.0, and a choice of using either Microsoft Mail 3.x or StarNine Mail as the e-mail client. One obvious observation compared to other copies of Office, is that the retail box itself was particularly thin and light, similar to Microsoft Home multimedia titles at the time. This particular copy distributed on CD originally retailed for $199 AUD due to the academic use license. Five years later would see this version, 4.2, that would generate plenty of resentment amongst Mac users.ĭataflow were a major software distributor for the Australian & New Zealand markets. During the late 1980s Microsoft did well selling individual copies of Word and Excel on the platform, comparative to their PC-based releases. Interestingly Office’s roots stem from the Macintosh. Within the ‘Office family’ is Publisher, Visio and Project, where the former two didn’t come across to Mac, while the latter was short-lived in the early 1990s. The e-mail client changed relatively frequently, whilst Windows users have been using Outlook since Office 97. ![]() The exception being with Office 2004 for the inclusion of Virtual PC. Microsoft Access never made it, hence no Professional edition available. Microsoft Office for the Macintosh always felt kind of second-rate compared to its Windows counterpart. ![]()

Saga frontier remastered art6/29/2023 ![]() So if you’re fighting a mech for example, the thing that you see in the world is usually a little wheeled thing, but the actual enemy you face could be an aerial attacker. The enemy type is indicated by what approaches you though, rather than the actual enemy that you’ll be fighting. Battles aren’t random like in many JRPGs, but instead are triggered by creatures that you approach or vice versa. This is sadly not explained brilliantly by the game itself, and I found myself turning to the internet for answers either from forums or the original PlayStation manual (something which is noticeably absent in this package).Įnemy design is great, with staples like skeletons and mythical beasts complemented by some downright bizarre beasties, like a rainbow trout with legs and a trident. This means grinding isn't always necessary, but it’s still worthwhile in order to get the optimal combinations of skills. You gain new abilities from using the ones that you have, with new moves ‘glimmering’, which is to say that sometimes you’ll cast an attack, and suddenly learn and perform a different one. The important thing here though is how does it play? The SaGa series is a different kettle of fish to most JRPGs, with no XP or levelling. Not enough to be off-putting, but it reminds you every now and then that this is a remaster and not a whole new game. In some sections there are what look like 90s digitised sprites placed on top of ostensibly redrawn environments and it’s a little jarring when this occurs. Square Enix has already stated that some AI upscaling has been used and on occasion things look a little out of place. The character models are now super high res and seem to have been redrawn from scratch, but many of the enemies look like they’ve been upscaled from original assets. Graphically, this is a reasonable upgrade from the original release. It’s very in-keeping with the soundtrack that you would expect from a Square RPG and sets the scene perfectly. In fact, the original composer Kenji Ito has been brought in to create new music for new main character Fuse. This hasn’t changed much from the original and has just been tidied up a little. The first thing that you will notice upon starting the game is that the soundtrack, as is often the case with Square titles, is absolutely lovely. I played the Switch version for this review, but the features are the same across all versions. This remastered version of the 1997 Square PlayStation classic makes up for the lack of a release by coming to pretty much every platform worldwide simultaneously including mobile devices. ![]() In my defence, the title never got a PAL release so it passed me by in the 90s and it has never quite made the top of my ever-growing ‘to play’ list since then. I’ve not even got around to starting Chrono Trigger, let alone finishing it! And so it is with SaGa Frontier a classic RPG that I’ve just never managed to get round to. I’ve made it to the end of a few of the Final Fantasy series and Skies of Arcadia, but I’ve never completed Ni No Kuni or any of the Breath of Fire games.
